Working with Durham County Council
The Council is also working with Durham County Council in developing a project to create a historical exhibition of photographs and memorabilia. This project will involve working in partnership with Durham County Council Archives, Newton Press, Northern Echo, and local residents.
It is anticipated that the exhibition will be put on display at various locations including the Council Offices, Town Centre, community centres, churches etc later in the year.
The Council would be delighted to hear from any local groups or residents who have any interesting historical photographs, documents, and memorabilia, or stories or records of the history of the town.
Further ideas being worked on with a 75th Anniversary theme include a possible sports competition as 1948 was also the year that London hosted the Olympics, a Charity Golf Competition, the Ayclive Music Festival, a community walk or 75-mile challenge, and a book of remembrance to be opened for local people to record their memories of the 75 years of the Town.
The Town Council is encouraging local businesses, schools, churches, and community organisations to get involved in celebrating and commemorating the 75th Anniversary of the town under the banner of “Aycliffe 75”.
